TNR PROJECT - Trap; Neuter and Release 

We managed to trap; neuter and release 7 cats just before Christmas and within the first two weeks of January around the Harrismith Town Hall. One kitty was injured on the head. Dr Slabber said that the wound is almost healed, but he still went ahead and cleaned it up and stitched it up for the little man. This way it will heal faster. While trapping around the town hall we noticed that there are literally hundreds of cats that need help. We would love to help 10 more very soon. But, we don't have enough funds. If you can help, please make a little donation towards our project. With your help, we will be able to help more cats.

Who are we?

Harrismith Animal Shelter is a Non-Profit organization and relies solely on fundraisers, adoptions, sponsors and donations from our communities in order to provide safe shelter and care for lost / abandoned rescue pets while we find  good forever homes for these fur babies. Without your help and regular adoptions taking place, there can be no Animal Shelter in Harrismith.  Please help keep this much needed initiative alive, please support us.
Did you know that adoption fees only cover vaccinations, sterilization and deworming of rescued pets taken in at the Harrismith Animal Shelter and nothing else?

What we do

  • Adoptions of homeless animals to people seeking  life long companions.
  • Impounding of stray / abandoned / abused pets in Harrismith as kennel space and funds allows.
  • Reunion of lost pets with their owners.
  • Education on appropriate pet care and ownership.
  • Volunteer opportunities for people who want to make a difference.
  • Provide boarding facilities for pets.
Please report lost or stolen pets. We will help share on social media and help you look for your beloved pet.

Did you know that Harrismith Animal Shelter is a "no kill" shelter, only has 15 dog friendly kennels available? How can you help?

  • Adopt cats and dogs from us when you are ready for new additions to your family.
  • Support our fundraisers to help pay for day to day operational costs such as wages, salaries, electricity, insurance, vet. bills and bank charges
  • Sponsor cat or dog food - we can collect and you are welcome to drop off at the shelter. Financial contributions can also be made safely online.
  • Volunteer your services - Our staff and resources are very limited and we need all the help we can get.
  • We ask only for what we need as we need, please keep in touch and signup to our monthly newsletters.

A life of love & light for Suzi
Did you know that saving dogs like Laine and Suzi cost thousands of rands in vet care, medicine, holistic therapy and special foods? Not to mention the suffering the poor animal has had to go through. We rescue and rehabilitate them because they are so very special and deserve a second chance to happiness and love.
TIP: Relocating? Please make arrangements for your pets in the same town your are moving to the moment you know you are going to move away. This way you know you will be close to your pets, can visit as much you want and take food until you have managed to find a home suitable for the whole family. 
Can't keep them? Do right by them.. Find them good homes. We can't take your unwanted pet in, but we can help you find a home by posting in social media, reaching out to our contacts and we can do home checks with you. Please don't ask us on 99, please ask well in advance for best chance in finding a new home. Shelter adoption rules and fees will apply if we find a suitable home for your pet/s.
